Finding that perfect pumpkin

Lions Club Pumpkin Patch to return for fifth year

CHESTERMERE – With the colors of fall officially showing up around town, the thought of pumpkin-carving might have crossed the mind of Halloween enthusiasts.

Luckily, the event that allows Chestermere and area residents to pick out arguably the best pumpkins around, is coming back for it’s fifth year.

The Lions Club Pumpkin Patch event will take place on Saturday Oct. 15 at Mountain View Funeral home. Families can come out and pick the perfect pumpkin from the Lions pumpkin patch, then stick around for storytelling, hotdogs, hot chocolate or coffee.

Coordinator Dawn Seguin of the Lions Club said that it is a fun activity for the whole family, and that there will be hundreds of pumpkins to choose from.

“It’s great for families in Chestermere, it’s a really fun event,” she said. “The kids get to come and pick their pumpkins, run out in the field and pick what they want, and just enjoy themselves.

“It’s beginning to be a bit of a tradition in Chestermere, we really enjoy hosting it every year.”

Seguin said that the pumpkin patch is one of their main fundraisers for the year, and that by supporting the event, participants will in turn be supporting all of the local organizations that the Lions donate to. She said that the event is both a fundraising effort, but also a fun seasonal community event for Chestermere.

“Seeing kids and their faces when they come to pick out their pumpkin is very rewarding,” Seguin said. “They’re always so excited, and some of them dress up in their Halloween costumes too.”

Seguin said, “It should be another fun year. Last year we had two ladies from the library come by dressed as witches, and they read stories to the kids.

“Everyone loved it, it was fantastic, so that will be back this year as well.”

This year there will also be an area decorated with pumpkins and hay bales where people can take families photos.

The Lions Club pumpkins cost $10 each, and attendees are reminded to stop by the patch early for the best selection.

The event will take place once again at Mountain View Funeral Home, on Sat. Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m (or until all of the pumpkins are gone.)
