ATCO Gas’s 100 Days of Summer Tour

It's a Gas, Gas, Gas

CHESTERMERE – ATCO Gas is celebrating 100 years of providing safe, reliable natural gas service to Albertans and to mark this milestone, they have planned a variety of exciting community events across the entire province this summer. One of the communities the ATCO group visited was Chestermere on July 4th. The celebration tour featured a free barbeque, children’s activities, giveaways and refreshments from the ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen. A vaudeville-style live theatre show entitled,” He’s Got the Pipes”, told the history of natural gas service in Alberta in a fun and entertaining style that was suitable for all ages. The highly energetic stars of the play were Jenna Dykes, Jacques Arsenault and Mike Zimmerman. Yes some of the jokes were quite good I must admit. Mayor Mathews was also on hand to take part in the play and later on draw names for a prize.
Steve Sarmaga, an ATCO Gas Utility Locate Auditor, manned one of the booths that were set up to display their many types of gas lines and the importance of “Call Before You Dig”. They also wanted to show the proper techniques of excavating around a gas line. On the outside of the gym at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, ATCO Gas employees show you how to cook a wiener; hot diggity dog!!
Bill Stephens, Senior Vice President & General Manager of ATCO Gas, said “It is because of our customers that ATCO proudly marks a century of heating homes and warming communities in Alberta”. “ATCO Gas is an integral member of the communities it serves and has been an important contributor to the economic development of this province.”
A pinnacle celebration will take place July 15 at the closing grandstand show at the Calgary Stampede. The cauldron atop the Calgary Tower will be lit to commemorate the flaring ceremony that took place July 1912 as natural gas was brought to the City of Calgary.
ATCO Gas customers can enter a contest online (atcogas.com) to win one of five “Heat Your Home for a Year” prizes and much more. Customers are also invited to share their stories of how natural gas has helped to change life for their family or community.
