Chestermere Knights of Columbus S-N-T success

K of C S-N-T night means Lobster

Well, once again the Chestermere Knights of Columbus were able to pull off an incredible evening of fun, food and dance with the 3rd annual KofC Surf-n-Turf.
On May 12th at the CRCA, 10 members of this fine group of men showed up at 9am to set the stage for the evenings’ event. Set up has become routine for most of these guys. Lights are hung on the walls, black table clothes are placed and tables are set with elegant dinnerware and handcrafted lighthouse centerpieces.
The evening started with cocktails at 5; 30 pm. Patrons began to gather and soon after dinner was served up. For anyone who has never attended, well, seeing is believing. Just over 200 8oz. Steak and 200 1.5 lbs lobsters were served with veggies’ and salad, all within 30 minutes and all done to perfection.
The Kick Start Trio from Calgary absolutely rocked the stage all night long, keeping everyone on the dance floor with their high energy music ranging from Heart to Country and Western to – well – even the Macarena.
Through the evening door prizes were drawn along with raffles. The “big” prizes went to some returning guests. Joe Fazakas who won $1000.00 in cash and Brian Miller who took home $770.00 from the 50/50 draw. Other prizes went to: Pat O’Connor, Tina Sarantis, Brad Watson, Tammy Summerfield, Chad Nelson, Kristi Henry, Sherrie Anderson, Mary Miller and finnally David McIlwrick. However there was one more very special winner. Friends – Daryl Faye and Alan Petrovic out bid everyone on the live auctioning of the 7lbs live lobster – complete with electric cooler. Our own Rob Pearson acting as auctioneer managed to fetch $280.00 for the tasty “little fella”. By the end of the night over $4000.00 in cash and prizes were handed out.
The Knights have worked hard over the past several years, donating there time and talents for local needs as well as for the Knights recognized charities. In Chestermere money from this event will help support Relay for Life, The Food Bank, CRCA (children’s program) and Yell. Outside the community, $500 was donated to the Hockey Marathon and tips from the bar will be forwarded to the Canadian Wheel Chair Foundation.
On behalf of the 18 Knights of Columbus who volunteered to make this S-n-T happen, I would like to give special thanks to the following people. If it weren’t for their continual support, this event would not be possible or as successful as it has proven to be for the past three years.
