Come join the 2012 Christmas with Dignity Celebration!

CHESTERMERE – The Christmas With Dignity campaign is well underway for the 2012 holiday season and with it brings a great amount of joy and excitement as individuals, families and businesses give back to those less fortunate. To help support the campaign we will be hosting the Christmas with Dignity Celebration! on December 15, 2012 from 11:00am – 3:00pm at Town Hall and the Library.
Angela Normand, Community Resource Coordinator and co-chair for the Christmas with Dignity Campaign, said “The Celebration! brings people together throughout the community. Kids, parents, grandparents, businesses and individuals come and enjoy a great day and in doing so help spread the Christmas spirit to those in need.”
The Celebration! will feature something for the whole family. The Christmas Store for Kids provides children with the opportunity to browse a wide variety of gifts (that range in cost from $1 to $5) in Council Chambers while supervised by local youth. After selecting the perfect present for their loved ones, the youth will help the children wrap their gift so it will remain a surprise. Parents and grandparents waiting outside will have the chance to bid on excellent silent auction items, experience Christmas entertainment provided by local musicians and enjoy hot chocolate and treats.
Normand, remembering the success that the Christmas Store brought to the event last year, said “The Christmas Store for Kids was amazing to watch! The kids were so excited to be able to purchase gifts for their families. When the kids came out of the store, the parents were more excited than the kids on Christmas day to see what their kids had purchased!”
After the kids finish shopping, families can make their way down to the Library to view the Gingerbread House contest. The Library is also expecting a visit from Santa himself, so be sure to bring all those good little girls and boys out to see the man in red!
All proceeds from the day will go towards Christmas with Dignity, a program that temporarily assists families cover the costs of necessary items like housing, utilities, dental services and medication as well as allowing them to purchase small Christmas gifts for their children.
The Christmas season is a time of giving and organizers hope that all residents will come out to share in this special Celebration! and spread the Christmas spirit to families in need. If you have any questions or would like to donate items for the Christmas Store or silent auction or if you are interested in volunteering for the event please call Community Services at 207-7060
