Support local food banks at the Lane of Lights

Aspen Crossing, local groups and businesses were busy this past weekend as they prepared their displays for the grand opening of the second annual Lane of Lights. The Lane of Lights, located in the Aspen Crossing Campground, is set to light up Nov. 17 and continue shining every night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., until New Years.

“We are very excited for this year’s Lane of Lights and it’s for a great cause,” explained organizer, Leslie Benner. “This year we will be collecting food bank items at the Gingerbread House every Friday and Saturday night!”

On weekend nights guests will also be welcomed with a roasting fire, Christmas music, hot chocolate and other goodies. These nights are set to be hosted not only by Aspen Crossing but by Vulcan’s Market Street, Vulcan Tourism and Trek Station, Vulcan Chamber of Commerce and the Carseland Fire Department.

“There are many new displays and large items coming this year including excavating equipment and the giant Chestermere Anchor. There will also be returning favorites including AM 1060’s 20ft guitar that plays music,” said Benner. “Our hope is to create community awareness and spirit while raising funds and donations to local food banks.”

Approximately 2,000 people attended the Lane of Lights last year and Aspen Crossing’s goal is to triple that many through the park this year.

“Drop in for some hot chocolate, meet our hosts and warm up by the fire. If you want park your car to walk through you can, just remember to leave a donation on Friday or Saturday night,” said Benner.

Aspen Crossing’s annual Christmas Market will also be taking place opening weekend of the Lane of Lights, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Nov. 17 and 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Nov. 18.
