CHESTERMERE – The Whitecappers of Chestermere are a busy bunch I must say. Their latest outing consisted of a short trip to Rosebud Alberta. I have talked earlier about Rosebud and what an interesting town this is; there are many things to do and see there. So on August 16, thirty one folks climbed onto the “Tim Horton’s” bus for a beautiful drive down the highway to see the play ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. It was a hot and sunny day, the sun was shining but didn’t compare to the gleaming smiles from the crowd after seeing the magnificent performance at Rosebud Theatre; but more about that later. The bus arrived in Rosebud around 11:30am thus giving a bit of time for shopping at the unique little shops and travelling down memory lane at the museum before going to a wonderful noon buffet lunch. The food at the Mercantile is delicious, plentiful and a there is a huge assortment of items to from which to choose.

The play began at 1:30pm and within moments of the opening had the attentive crowd in outbursts of laughter. Anne of Green Gables is a fine musical; the comedic lyrics in the songs and acting were often unexpected and were mixed with the right amount of drama. The characters chosen for the play were superb. Throughout the play there were moments where the men in the audience may have had to hold back the tears but the comedy quickly brought back the laughter to one and all. After the play the bus was boarded again for the trip back to Chestermere and the bus was humming of conversations about the play and Rosebud – the little hamlet that could/does/did.
Using one of Anne’s favorite words, it was an “extraordinary day”.
If you think this outing or other activities organized by the Whitecappers Association would be something you would be interested in doing, you can inquire at the Whitecappers Hall. They are located at the Chestermere Recreation Centre just south of the main entrance or call Carollyne at 403-235-2117.
The Whitecappers are already talking of the next excursion for the “Christmas” play – so if you are interested, stay in touch with the Whitecappers and the Anchor and all the details will be given out as soon as they are available.
