Chestermere High report for December 2013

As always, life at Chestermere High has been jam packed with events. With the last day being December 20th, kids have had a couple fun days in order to transition over to the holiday season.

Tuesday, December 10th, was a greatly anticipated day for the CHS Band Department, who played their Christmas concert at Knox United Church. The night featured all of the different band programs such as the Drumline, New Music Ensemble, CHS Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and the CHS Jazz Combo directed by Ludovit Polsz. The kids were extremely lucky as the entire night was recorded in the effort to make every kid in the band a CD that they could take home before Christmas break. Each track was professionally recorded and can now act as a wonderful arrangement of Christmas tunes for every year here after. The band was extremely busy with performances this month, and in that week alone they also performed on the following Friday down at the Telus Convention Centre, and on Saturday for Christmas with Dignity at the Town Hall. Right after that performance, they also played at CIBC for a quick set.

On Thursday, December 12th, the 2014 Grad Class were buzzing with excitement for their ‘Great Gatsby’ themed Winter Formal. With tons of work put in by Sarah Moore and her committee of hard working peers, the night was an absolute success. So many kids who weren’t on the committee helped set up the decorations before the dance started and their help was very much appreciated. We are lucky to have such a supportive grad class this year! With tons of streamers, chandeliers, balloon arches, and true-to-the-time silhouette cutouts made by our very own and extremely talented McKenna Prather, every picture taken at the dance truly captures the energy and spirit that was so vibrant during the dance. Of course, without the help of the high school’s wonderful staff, the night would not have been possible. Thank you so much to all of you who stayed to help set up, clean up, and chaperone the dance–it is greatly appreciated.
What an amazing first semester this has been so far. When we come back we have a week until diplomas and finals, and then we are on to new adventures in semester two. I am sure there will be the same amount of amazing stories to tell and experience.
