The doors to the new Chestermere Utilities Incorporated (CUI) office in the Chestermere Retail Plaza, located in Rainbow Falls opened in late August but the Grand Opening was held this weekend, on Saturday, October 19.

To celebrate, businesses from the entire shopping complex located on West Creek Drive joined in the festivities and residents were invited to come out and enjoy some fun. North Taphouse and Truman Developments provided free burgers and hot dogs, which kept everyone warm on the windy afternoon. Lakeshore Spa was giving free polish applications to girls 10 and under and Amato Gelato had free samples of their delicious ice cream for visitors to their shop.

Elected officials, including Mayor Matthews and MLA Bruce McAllister, came out to congratulate the hard work and commitment of the staff and Board of Directors of CUI.

“This is great news for the community, it’s important when we are growing so rapidly to have the services and infrastructure in place to be prepared for it. This company will focus solely on doing that.” says Bruce McAllister, MLA for Chestermere-Rocky View.

Mayor Patricia Matthews commented “We have the best team possible working for us.”

CUI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Town of Chestermere. The Town’s arm’s length municipal utility corporation focuses on providing safe, reliable and efficient water, sewer, stormwater, solid waste and recycling depot services for Chestermere. In August this year, Alberta Recycling awarded the CUI depot recycling site as the top recycling site in Alberta for facilities located in municipalities with populations between 5,000 and 25,000 people.

The CUI Board Chair, Catherine Connolly added “We are looking forward to the positive future ahead of our community by working together with our neighbours, Chestermere’s residents, the developers, the Town Council and our strategic partners by helping build a solid foundation for the fastest growing municipality in Canada.”

After the ribbon cutting ceremony CUI Board members, CEO Don Roberts, CUI employees, George Trutina from Truman Developments and members of Chestermere Town Council were available to answer questions.

The new CUI office is located at #403, 320 West Creek Drive and the website is www.cuinc.ca
