Father’s Raffle and M & M BBQ Great Success

M&M-BBQ event

M&M-BBQ event

In this springtime of rainy days, how great it was to see the sunshine last Saturday June 1st . It is great to get out in the garden but—also great to just sit outside, relax, visit with friends and enjoy an M & M hamburger for a good cause! As you can see a number of participants did just that and by the looks of volunteers Elaine Peake, Bruce McAllister, and fire fighters from Station #39. Likely discussing more serious things than BBQ sauce!
Appreciation goes to the hundreds of people who stopped in for a bite to eat, for those who purchased tickets to the Father’s Day Raffle baskets, and the many who donated items for the gift baskets. Congratulations to raffle winner Kim Roy who took home the first prize and to Stu Hutchison for second prize. Stu is pictured with BBQ fork in hand!
This could not have happened without a cadre of volunteers, led by Audrey McDonald and Marilyn King who rallied citizens and some of our local Fire Fighters from Fire Hall #59 to flip burgers and pour coffee; smiles all around!.
This fundraiser was in aid of the Chestermere Fire Truck Restoration, led by chef de restoration Vince Young. This 1952 Chestermere Fire Truck will be on display at the Show and Shine, Saturday July 27th. Funding will also help the Chestermere Historical Foundation in partnership with the Town of Chestermere Parks Department and Streetscape Committee, install a fresno scraper as public art near the Chestermere Library.
If you would like more information about the Historical Foundation and its work here in Chestermere go to www.chestermerehistory.org and click on Contact Us. See you in July!
