Have trinkets and books you’ve been meaning to clear out? Register your home for the Parade of Garage Sales!

It’s that time of year again! The Parade of Garage Sales will celebrate its seventh annual event in conjunction with the Spring Fair this weekend. Make sure to stop by the recreation center to pick up maps to explore registered houses in Chestermere, or register beforehand to be part of the fun.

”There are 120 homes in Chestermere that have registered so far,” says Project Organizer Patricia Virk, “and people are still more than welcome to sign up.”

If you are interested in registering your home to be a part of this event, please visit: www.pogs.mdom.mobi

The Parade of Garage Sales has shown year after year how many shoppers can be brought in to Chestermere, and how supportive the community is during their spring clean out. In addition to that, Virk also handles the advertising costs, which helps families who would’ve otherwise had to pay for their own signs and posters.

On Friday, May 2nd, there will be a sneak peek, which will feature a select number of homes before the official weekend begins. These homes will be made viewable on the website mentioned before. On Saturday May 3rd, it will last from 9-3, and on Sunday May 4th, it will run from 10-2.

“It’s a great way to promote the 3R’s,” says Virk, “recycling, reusing old items, and reducing our waste is important and helps cut back on costs that families would have had to pay for the items otherwise.”

Maps will be available for pick up at the recreation center from Saturday at eight in the morning until noon at a blue ATB-Financial tent. It is also suggested that when you swing by, to please drop off a non-perishable food item as there will be a food bank bin provided at the tent. “We are always in need of personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies,” notes Vicki Osanyintola, who will be providing the bin.

In addition to this, the Chestermere Library will also be hosting a book sale for people who are interested in stopping by and finding quality literature.

”It’s a great time to get out,” Virk says, “it’s the celebration of spring and allows the community the chance to get out of their winter slumps and reconnect with their neighbours again.”

This event attracts hundreds of participants from not only around Chestermere but surrounding areas as well, and with advertising help and community energy and spirit, it always produces a pleasant atmosphere. Come join your neighbours this weekend for the 7th annual Parade of Garage Sales, it’s bound to be another weekend to remember!
