St. Gabriel The Archangel Students came out in full force to support the first ever “Volley For A Cure Cup” on November 21st. Olivia Raposo, a grade 12 student at SGA, came up with the idea and name for this fun volleyball tournament. With some thought and time, she was able to bring this wonderful idea to fruition. Over 120 players (15 teams) registered for this fun Friday tournament in support of cancer. There was even an Alumni team of previous graduates who came back to join in and play some volleyball. Each team made a minimum donation of $2.00 per player to participate. Of course, many students were extremely generous in their donations, in turn raising $400.00 from this tournament. The games were intense, the crowd was alive and the players were exceptional. A junior high and senior high division was created within the competition. The junior high final was a very close game with the team “Big Sets” claiming the title against the grade eight team “Kiss My Ace”. Congratulations to Ryan, Mitchell, Jared, Jerome, Andrei and Tommy on claiming the cup.
The high school final saw a match up of the teacher team, “You’ve Been Served” against the powerful grade 11/12 team named “The Hoyaa’s”. After a close game, The Hoyaa’s claimed the cup with their powerful serves and hits. Congratulations to Jayden, Raeden, JP, Mark, Zach, Jayvee, Kyle and Nick!!!!! Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to Olivia Raposo for bringing this to light.
