Self Defense Workshop held October 4, 2014 at the Canadian Tae Kwon Do College in Chestermere.

It is appalling to know that we live in a world where 1 in 3 children are physically attacked before they turn 18 years of age and 1 in 4 kids will be bullied. With these sad statistics on the rise, the Canadian Tae Kwon Do College took a stand against this by hosting a free Self Defense Workshop on October 4th.
The Canadian Tae Kwon Do College is family owned and operated and is proud to be Chestermere’s only Tae Kwon Do school that offers classes on a full time basis, year round, and has classes designated to meet the specific needs of all the students from age 3 to adults of all ages. Their instructors are trained to help students of all physical levels to become their best by assisting them in improving their fitness, self-confidence and learn self defense.
Owners and head instructors, Danny & Shelley Gilbert said, “The main reason for wanting to do this workshop was to help educate kids about bullying.  Bullying has been a problem for a long time but we think it is only getting worse.  Many of our students have spoken with us about their experiences with being bullied and how it has affected their lives, and we have dealt with it on a personal level with our own children.  Unfortunately bullying is on the rise and until the children have the education and confidence to deal with it in the proper manner and recognize it before it becomes physical, it will continue to rise.  Education is power, if you give the kids the tools to feel confident enough to ask for help, and to help each other when they see someone else being bullied, we can take a stand against bullying and make a change in the community. Our hope is that they will have a little better idea of how to handle bullying before it ever really turns into a bad situation.”
As this was the first time they had held a workshop of this nature, the Gilbert’s were thrilled that they had 24 participants and it is something they absolutely plan on doing this again with the hopes of doing in a few times throughout the year.
