Monday January 20th started off a banner week for the Chestermere Historical Foundation. Thanks to the Town of Chestermere for an invitation to the Council meeting to first, give new Councillors an overview of the early history of Chestermere, and secondly to get support for a grant application to move ahead with further restoration of the 1952 fire truck. Before we left that meeting even the audience got in the act; six memberships, a copy of ‘Chestermere A Home for All Seasons’ had been sold and Truman Homes Ltd had provided a gift of $1000. For a list of all donors for the fire truck restoration please go to our new webpage www.chestermerehistory.org The support by builders, developers, and local real estate agents for this initiative has been outstanding. In fact, donations have come from a very broad swath of businesses and individuals in the community. The commitment of the CHF is to have the completed truck on the road and running this year! Donations are still welcome.

The Town of Chestermere Streetscape Committee will again be partnering with CHF in the installation of some historical farming/gardening artifacts July 2014.

The library gave CHF a gift of frames and newly installed is an original of Tim Rothheisler’s Anchor cover July 2013 which mentions the Historical Foundation. Watch for it and other new historical photos in the hallway gallery Chestermere Public Library.

Plans were also made in January month to reprise the success of ‘The War Brides are Coming’ with another play by Aspen Crossing Players to be held on either November 1st or 8th, 2014 at the Chestermere Rec Centre.

Chestermere Historical Foundation has been invited by Chinook Country Historical Society to participate in Historic Calgary Week July 25th to August 4th. Though CHF turned down this 2014 invitation to participate, a display will be mounted in Town Hall for that week and listed in the Historic Week events. In 2015 CHF will be ready to participate with a presentation on the story of the CCOA fire truck as well as another local display.

CHF continues to seek a person to provide guidance and help with cataloguing artifacts. If you have knowledge in this area, or know someone who might, contact CHF via the webpage.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday February 11th, 6:30pm at the Chestermere Public Library. Everyone welcome, memberships are the good old fashioned low price of $5.00 and include a one of a kind hand made membership card. See you there.
