Should expect some services for tax dollars

It is my opinion that taxes are expensive in Chestermere which is even more evident when you factor in the lack of services we have compared to our big neighbour to the west. I’m ok with that, I choose to live in a small town with a smaller tax base. I do though expect some services for my tax dollars. We had a lot of snow this winter and it took several neighbours making calls to the Town Hall to get our street plowed. Days later a plow showed up and did one pass down our street. Many of us had pushed out stuck cars for days prior. I don’t believe the plow ever came back.

I will say we had a gravel truck make several appearances. This gravel is all over the road and I would have thought it would have been cleaned up by now, the end of May. A call to Town Hall revealed the cleanup is late this year due to spring snow storms and it was indicated street sweepers were out in Chestermere. No date was given as to when to expect cleaning in my neighbourhood. I have yet to see a street sweeper picking up gravel. It hasn’t snowed for a while.

I sometimes question what I am paying for? Is it the person at Town Hall who answers the phone but doesn’t have answers to questions? Is it the beautiful waterfront around Town Hall? I don’t think much is spent in my neighbourhood…maybe the park at the end of the street. Councillors, you asked for my help to get re-elected a short time ago, now I’m asking you to please show me where my taxes are being used.
