A Social Evening For A Great Cause_001

Alberta is one of the fastest growing provinces in Canada. With this growth comes increased residential and commercial development. Grown also continues in the resource extraction industry. All of this impacts wetlands and how they function naturally. DUC (Ducks Unlimited Canada) works closely with farmers, ranchers and landowners to provide sustainable conservation programs and advice across the province.
Wetlands are part of this landscape. Lesser scaup, trumpeter swans and woodland caribou depend on the wetlands of Alberta’s boreal forest. Blue winged teals and red-tailed hawks savour the wetlands and uplands of the foothills and parklands. And the southern prairies are home to pronghorns, burrowing owls and northern pintails. Every year, Alberta hosts eight million waterfowl and 20 million shorebirds that use the province’s wetlands and surrounding habitat to mate, nest, hatch and raise their young.
DUC is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, industry, non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. As a not for profit, DUC relies heavily on its volunteers and fundraising events. In Alberta, there are 76 fundraising events held annually and approximately 934 volunteers.
On Saturday March 7th, DUC will be holding a fun filled evening at the Chestermere Landing. The evening will include casual dining along with many fun raffles, silent & live auction, in support of wetland conservation. There will be Gun or Redlin (print) giveaways every hour at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Tickets are $50.00 per person and can be purchased by calling Carol Smailes at 403-273-8778 or can be purchase online by visiting ducks.ca/events
