Arts and Culture in Langdon

On Friday, April 17th the marquee was lit over the entrance of the Leacock Theatre at
Mount Royal University. Backstage buzzed with excitement as performers from the
Langdon Theatre Association (LTA), ranging in age from 6 to 17, prepared for their
turn on stage. When the curtain opened on the 13th Annual Year End Production,
the audience was treated to four plays; The Gruffalo adaptation by The Langdon Creators;
Next Actor Please by Claudia Haas; Wait Wait Bo Bait by Lindsay Price; and Hoodie by
Lindsay Price. In viewing the eveningís performances, it was evident that the LTAís
condensed mandate, Life Skills Through Theatre – skills such as team building as well
as building self-esteem – had come to fruition. Bravo to all for a great year!
Theatre not your cup of tea? – then perhaps you enjoyed the musical performances on
Saturday at the Langdon and Area Musical Festival. This event gave local students a chance
to perform publicly. Honored piano adjudicator Linda Kunder-Stoll provided excellent
feedback to the students.
Perhaps art is your passion? The Langdon Fine Art Group also held their art show and
sale featuring work from local artists in a variety of mediums: acrylic, oil, pencil, glass,
photography, mixed media and print. Attendees were able to donate to enter their names
to win one of various art pieces donated by the participating artists. Donations went to the
Autism Society of Alberta. Local students also got in on the show by creating greeting
cards to be sold with proceeds going to the Alberta Childrenís Hospital. Their imagination
and creativity is amazing!
Tany’s Dance Worx dazzled us with the marvelous costumes in this yearís dance recital
featuring various forms of dance.
These are all annual events so whatever your preference, Langdon has something for you!
