Shop local & show your Canadian pride!!

With Canada Day quickly sneaking up on us, it is always a great day to get together as a community and celebrate our awesome country!  This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag.  So, the City of Chestermere has come up with a challenge to help our local businesses show their Canadian pride and grow their business at the same time.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE

• Keep the sea of red going.  Show your national pride by hanging a Canada flag (you may use a flag pole to do this)

• Decorate store front windows in a red and white theme

• Place red and white flowers pots in your store front entrance.

• Promote and advertise Canada Day specials

• Say yes and be a part of the passport promotion – see details below

CANADA DAY PASSPORT CAMPAIGN

The Canada Day Passport Campaign has been created for several reasons; first: to promote and drive customers to businesses in Chestermere; secondly to bring awareness of Chestermere’s Canada Day Celebration and the 50th Anniversary of the Canada flag. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to come together and show their National, Civic, and Community pride here in Chestermere.

HOW DOES THE PASSPORT CAMPAIGN WORK

• As some store front businesses are closed on July 1st the campaign would begin 4 weeks (TBC) before July 1st.

• Each retailer participant will receive Chestermere Canada Day Passports to hand out to customers who participate in their store Canada Day specials. (It is not a requirement to have Canada Day specials)

• Retailers will stamp the passport and print the name of their store on the stamped passports.

• Passports would have to be handed in by the participants at the Chestermere Library on July 1st to enter for prizes, at the Canada Day Celebration

• A minimum of 10 stamps is required to enter the draws

• Each participant will receive a puzzle piece for the large Canada day flag puzzle at the Chestermere Library.

HOW DOES YOUR STORE GET INVLOVED

• If your store front business would like to participate please contact Nancie at the City of Chestermere. Email: nhuneault@chestermere.ca  Tel: 403 207-7051

• Passports will be delivered to your store

• Your company will be added to the list for marketing purposes

• The City of Chestermere will promote this campaign on social media and newspaper ads.

• Donate a prize for the draws

Now, how can the residents get involved?

The City of Chestermere encourages and invites their residents to hang a Canada Flag outside of their home and shop local!

Starting June 8th participating businesses will have available Canada Day Passports. Residents who shop and make a purchase at these local businesses can receive a passport.

Collect ten stamps on your passport from shopping at local businesses and enter to win some great prizes.  Passports must be dropped off no later than 3:30pm on July 1st at the Chestermere Library to be eligible.  If you are under 18 a parent must sign your passport.

What is your flag knowledge?  Here are some interesting flag facts:

• National Flag Day is February 15th

• The maple leaf has been used as an emblem in Canada since the eighteenth century

• Red and white were proclaimed Canada’s official colours in the proclamation of the Royal Arms of Canada in 1921 by King George V.

• Dr. George Stanley, a professor at Royal Military College in Kingston in 1964, suggested a red and white single maple leaf design for the flag because it could be seen clearly from a       distance.

• Vexillologists (flag experts) often cite the National Flag of Canada as one of the world’s most beautiful based on its simple design and limited number of colours.

So here you go Chestermere!!  Help support local businesses and also show your Canadian Pride!
