On Saturday March 7th, the Chestermere Fine Art Guild filled the MPP room of the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre with gorgeous pieces of art. With everything from sprawling landscapes, to whimsical scenes of children and animals to abstract pieces that hold different meanings to the beholder – this event proved that we are surrounded by some very talented artists.
Every year, the Guild members select an artist at the show whose inspirational work inside and outside of the studio reflects the Guild’s passion to create and share art with the community. This year, the Guild is chose to showcase the brilliant artwork of long-time Guild member and Guild president, Sherry Telle.
Sherry Telle has worked in creative fields for over 25 years. She attended the Alberta College of Art, after which she embarked on a creative career path teaching watercolour and acrylics. Currently she handles all of the illustration work for the graphic design firm tellegrafix.com. She is inspired by light and shadow, the texture and colour of an animal’s fur, the reflections in a puddle and the colours in a patch of snow.
Sherry started her career as a watercolour artist and still occasionally enjoys working in this medium. Recently she discovered a new technique using alcohol based inks on a plastic surface called yupo and is enjoying the bold colours and interesting effects of this medium. Sherry works primarily in coloured pencil using various techniques. Her works have been purchased by local corporations and private collectors alike, with pieces gracing establishments as far away as Brisbane, Australia. Sherry conducts workshops in Coloured Pencil, Watercolour, and Alcohol Inks. Teaching Visual Art is one of her greatest joys. Along with being the President of the Chestermere Fine Art Guild, she is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Calgary Chapter. For more information on Sherry Telle and to see more of her artwork, feel free to visit her website at www.sherrytelleart.com or her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SherryTelleArt.
The Chestermere Fine Art Guild is a talented group of artists from different backgrounds working in different mediums. They get together at the Chestermere Rec Centre every Thursday from 1-4 pm to paint, draw, discuss, give support and learn about all things art related. They welcome new members experienced or beginner to join them at any time.
