Chestermere Utilitities Incorporated posts solid 2014 results

Increasing service and investing in infrastructure for future growth

Chestermere, AB – On April 28, 2015, Chestermere Utilies Incorporated (CUI) held its Annual General Meeting and was pleased to release its fourth quarter 2014 operating and financial results. A municpally-owned corporation established in 2011 by the Town of Chestermere, CUI increased its asset value by more than $4 million in 2014.

CUI is committed to providing innovative utility services and continues to look for cost-reducing measures, passing these savings onto residents, either directly, or through improved services. In 2014, CUI focused on identifying and fixing sources of water loss as well as negotiated a twenty-year supply agreement and four-year pricing arrangement for water and wastewater services from the City of Calgary. As a result of these successful initiatives, CUI can now offer a zero rate increase to its customers for 2015.

“This was a transitional year for CUI,” said CUI Board Chair, Gord Lowe. “Having built a solid foundation for the company, we have shifted our focus to accommodating the anticipated growth of Chestermere. This means taking steps to provide additional services to residents as well as expanding our business beyond the boundaries of Chestermere.”

Over the past year, CUI completed the Great Plains Sanitary Trunk Line, began construction of Lift Station 13, and improved its recycling facility. With the support of Council, CUI was also able to establish the Life Cycle Fund, an initiative that will ensure the long-term sustainability of Chestermere’s infrastructure.

“CUI’s commitment to excellence and growth reflects the values of our community,” said Patricia Matthews, Mayor of Chestermere. “CUI continues to serve Chestermere’s current needs, while proactively planning to accommodate the needs of the municipality that we strive to become.”

Since its inception, CUI has successfully focused efforts on core strategic areas of services excellence, leadership in the community, growing its business, creating a great place to work and internal operations. As it looks to the future, CUI will build on its strength in these areas while it pursues growth in both regulated and non-regulated business.
