Chestermere, AB – Results of the 2015 census are in and indicates that Chestermere continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta with a population increase of 7.5% over the last year.
“Chestermere, Alberta’s newest City, is still attracting people with our recreation and relaxation based environment,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews. “We all know what a great community this is and it looks like the word is still spreading!”
1293 new residents began calling Chestermere home last year bumping the new city’s population to 18,496.
The demographic information collected as part of the census remained consistent with previous years’ data indicating that there is an equal split between men and women in the City, almost 30% of residents are under the age of 20 and close to 75% of residents live in a single detached home.
Every other year, the census also collects data on language. The data from 2015 indicates that there was a slight increase in residents who speak Punjabi. The census also asked where residents are employed and 8.8% indicated they work in Chestermere (an increase from 7.4% in 2013, the last time the question was posed).
With many areas still under construction and multiple areas available for new businesses, Chestermere expects continued growth both in residents and businesses over the next several years as well.
Chestermere conducts an online census every year to collect demographic information on the community and assist with planning for future growth and programs.
