September 9th a band of merry bakers will be preparing fillings and rolling out their pastry to make about 25 pies to be auctioned on Saturday September 12th 2:20pm at the Chestermere Ag Country Fair 4th annual STARS old fashioned pie auction fund raiser. There will be some pretty delicious pies so don’t miss your chance to bid and also support a valuable organization.
The parade is bigger and better every year! After having your fill of pancakes at the Lions Club Pancake breakfast (9am) head over to West Chestermere Drive to catch the parade! It starts at 9:30am from Chestermere Middle School.
The excitement has been building as to who will win all those great Red Ribbon prizes this year. Thanks to a dedicated donations committee headed by Jana Jopko and ably assisted by Pat Tindall, the Red Ribbon has raised nearly $6000 in prize money! And as there are still a few days left, YOU have time to enter and pocket some of that prize money. Entries are accepted ONLY Friday September 11th in the CRCA Curling Rink starting at 11am and finishing SHARP at 6pm. Judging is from 7-10pm and you can watch the proceedings in the curling rink from ‘View from the Top’, sponsored by Corinne Watson and Patricia Virk. Sip some free wine and cheese, meet the three celebrity judges, Candace and Wade from ‘Garden Sense’ (ask them ANY gardening questions!) and Gwendolyn Richards, blogger, Calgary Herald columnist and author of ‘Pucker–a cookbook for citrus lover’s.’ She will sign your copy and also have some for sale.
Sharp at 10am most of the other activities around the CRCA fairgrounds open their doors; Exhibition of Red Ribbon Entries in Curling Rink, South Side Fun Zone, North Side Kid Zone, Outdoor Market Place and Main Hall Exhibits. The Fun Country Rider’s Gymkhana starts at 11:30am in the corral with trick riding at 12 noon.
New this year is a chance for you to vote on your favourite “My First” quilt at the display on the stage in the Main Hall. At 12 noon sharp in the curling rink, the Faucher family will be waving the chequered flag for the 2nd annual Zucchini Car Races. Still time to enter and get your wheels and axels at the Chestermere Library.
And rounding back to my first topic, the pie auction, get your front row seat at 2pm in the Curling Rink, hear announcements of the ten Red Ribbon trophy winners, the Jane Carlyle Quilt Prize and the Craig Lawrence LEGO competition at 2pm, and get ready to bid for your favourite pie at 2:30pm courtesy of Bill from Elevate Auction.
This year’s Red Ribbon Committee and Fair Committee of the Chestermere Ag Society have done an amazing job to bring to you the 26th Annual Chestermere Country Fair. If you attend and have a great time, remember, the Chestermere Agricultural Society needs YOUR membership to continue this tradition into the future of ‘Putting the Country Back in Community.’ Contact them and get your membership now! chestermereagsociety@gmail.com For any questions on the Red Ribbon visit https://www.facebook.com/ChestermereCountryFair?fref=ts
See you at the Fair!
