Dangerous intersection must be changed

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 10, I learned that a former schoolmate of mine was killed the night before in a car accident at the corner of Highway 791 and Highway 1.
I don’t know the story. I don’t know who is to blame. But I refuse to sit and wait for another tragedy to occur. This is a dangerous intersection that hundreds of people drive through everyday, and something needs to change.
An overpass is, and always has been, the solution. However, over the years I have heard excuse after excuse as to why an overpass will not be put in: Alberta doesn’t have enough money, and there isn’t enough property to install large ramps.
An overpass is being put in on Glenmore at Ogden Road, and I believe that the design of this future roadway is the perfect solution to our problem. It is an overpass that does not require a large amount of land. It has lights to slow down traffic. And it would absolutely save lives. So what are we waiting for? Our Minister of Transportation needs to be contacted. He needs to be made aware of how this affects us as a community, and how we need to take action as a province.
A few days ago, an entire student body mourned in the parking lot, and two parents went home without their child. If that doesn’t say that something needs to change, then I don’t know what does.
