Get on the Bus! C.O.W. Coming to Chestermere

Chestermere, AB – On Monday, May 25th 2015, the Classroom on Wheels (C.O.W.) Bus is coming to Chestermere! The C.O.W. Bus travels around Alberta bringing communities together to focus on the importance of literacy.

The Formative 5 Coalition, in partnership with Kidz 1st Network Parent Link Centre, Chestermere Public Library, Rocky View Schools Community Learning and Primary Care Network, will be hosting this event from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm with many great activities for children and their families.

We will be setting out on a pirate treasure hunt beginning in the Parent Link Centre where you can expect to find a craft and your treasure map to help you on your journey. There will be story time and other activities in the Library, yoga in John Peake Park and music in the gazebo. Last, you can finish your treasure hunt with a tour of the C.O.W. Bus where you can collect your pirate booty! There will also be a book sale hosted by Barefoot Books and Usborne Books, and a special presentation at 3:00 pm.

The Formative 5 Coalition was developed in response to the Early Childhood Mapping Project (ECMap) and their research that indicated approximately one in four children entering Kindergarten are experiencing difficulty in one or more of the five domains of development.

These areas include: Communication and General Knowledge, Language and Thinking Skills, Physical Health and Well-Being, Emotional Maturity and Social Competence. The Coalition’s goal is to combat these statistics in the Chestermere/Southeast Rocky View area.

The C.O.W. Bus provides an opportunity to reach children in our target age group of 0-5 years and provide programming to support advancement in these areas, as well as educate parents and professional providers on the importance of early childhood development.

Please join us for an exciting adventure into the wonderful world of literacy! If you would like more information on the Formative 5 Coalition or the C.O.W. Bus event in Chestermere, please contact Selena Sommerville at ssommerville@chestermere.ca or 403-207-7046.
