It's your turn to show your random acts of kindness

hundredsandthousands

The awesomeness that is the Hundreds & Thousands group is turning the tables in their newest surprise.  For months now this anonymous group has been surprising unsuspecting residents and businesses of Chestermere with amazing acts of kindness.  There is no rhyme or reason to these acts.  Some have happened under the dark of night, some in the middle of the day.  Some have involved the help of a local group, while others seem to have happened as nothing short of magic.

Just as in the past, I received a private message on Twitter from the Hundreds & Thousands group advising me to check out their website for information on the challenge they are throwing out to the residents of Chestermere.  Here is what they’ve provided:

“The challenge is on! We’re declaring May 17-23, 2015, Hundreds and Thousands Week and we’re challenging groups and individuals in Chestermere to come up with the most creative, fun, community impacting acts of kindness our city has ever seen.

Hundreds and Thousands (hundredsandthousands.ca) is an anonymous group in Chestermere that began with the simple idea that many small acts of kindness, spread about like confetti throughout our city, could impact the way we care for each other and inspire even more kindness and even greater generosity. In the same way a spilled bag of glitter gets all over, we think hundreds and thousands of acts of kindness in Chestermere will make this city the most amazing place for everyone to live. We’ve been having fun doing this for the past year, and we get plenty of emails from others asking how they can get involved. Well now, here is your chance!

We’re challenging groups and individuals in Chestermere to plan, create, and execute the most creative, community impacting acts of kindness that you can come up with. Then, on the week of May 17-23, 2015, we’re all blitzing Chestermere with hundreds and thousands of acts of kindness – it’s going to be awesome! School classes, principals, business leaders, churches, community groups, families, politicians, and everyone who calls Chestermere their home, is challenged to think of the most creative way to show kindness to others. We’ll then give the three most inspiring stories a cash prize of $500 each! Oh yah, the challenge is on!

Here are the rules:

Get a group together and come up with the most fun, creative, community impacting act of kindness you can think of. Start planning now!

Plan to execute your act of kindness anytime during the week of May 17-23, 2015.

Tell us in advance what you’re up to and where (email andthousands@gmail.com), when the time is right we’ll promote your act of kindness and make a big deal of it!

Take lots of pictures and, in less than 500 words, email your story to us at andthousands@gmail.com. Include your contact information. This will be your entry into our competition. Easy as that! Deadline to send us your pictures and story is May 31st, 2015.

Be sure to tweet your event with #hundredsandthousands, follow us @andthousands.  The world will want to know about what’s going on in Chestermere, AB!   Visit hundredsandthousands.ca for more info.

We’ll judge the winners based on acts of kindness that exemplify creativity, fun, and community impact. The three most inspiring stories will receive a cash prize of $500 each!

Help spread the word and let people know that May 17-23, 2015 is Hundreds and Thousands Acts of Kindness Week in Chestermere. Challenge your co-workers, school groups, and family to join in the fun. Let’s let Canada know that Chestermere is truly the most amazing, giving, and kindest city in the country. Visit hundredsandthousands.ca for more ideas. The challenge is on!”

So Chestermere, are you up for the challenge?  I believe you are!  On a regular basis there are random acts of kindness going on in our city, some get shared on social media and others are done anonymously.  These generous and amazing people that are behind the Hundreds & Thousands initiative have the belief that the residents of Chestermere can do this – sounds like it’s time to show them that all of their random acts of kindness and the spirit of which this all started has not been in vain and that Chestermere and its residents are as awesome as they believe us to be!
