The Knights of Columbus Council 14492 of Chestermere are gearing up to host their annual Surf N Turf event.  This is the 6th year for the ever popular event and the proceeds raised always go towards amazing causes.

From last year’s event they were able to donate $7500.00 to the Canadian Wheel Chair Foundation. That money less approx. 5% for administration in Surrey BC goes to purchasing and delivery of wheel chairs to those most in need.   However, the Chestermere Knights of Columbus had a request from Mountain View Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for one of the wheel chairs to help assist those at the funeral home when needed.

After the request, K of C member Patrick Watson, then spoke with the past manager at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Center to see if there was also a need there.  “Debbie was delighted and assured me that they would be very useful and appreciated”, said Watson.   So from last year’s proceeds they purchased an additional 3 wheel chairs for the Chestermere community.

Last year the K of C also donated to the family Bike Park and gave $2000 to help with the cost of the Cenotaph.

This year’s event, being held May 9th at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre, is raising money that will be going to the Chestermere Cenotaph Memorial at Anniversary Park and The Calgary Elizabeth House.

The Elizabeth House seeks to offer a haven in which young women in crisis can learn to be loved. Their hope is to provide a safe, caring and supportive environment in which their residents can receive guidance around positive life choices.  Elizabeth House is a residential life-skills based program for teenage girls and young women. Residents are provided with shelter and various supports to assist in their path to building a healthy, independent family. The majority of residents at Elizabeth House choose to parent their children. For those who choose adoption, the program supports and loves them through the process. The average term of residency is one year.

Tickets can still be purchased for this event for $75 which includes dinner, live music and a dance.  The event always has raffles, door prizes, 50/50 draw and much more fun!  Complimentary limo rides are also being offered thanks to the generous folks at Mountain View Memorial Funeral Service.  To purchase tickets to this amazing event or for more information, please call (403) 923-0099.
