Thanks in part to a generous grant from the Chestermere United Way the CHF has been able to add more artifacts to the display cabinets in the Chestermere Library. The cabinets were purchased through a New Horizon Grant applied for and received by the Chestermere Library to provide space for historical information and artifacts. So, as of this week gone are the artifacts you have been seeing for the past year, and voila, some new and interesting pieces, mostly pertaining to school days at the turn of the century, with a few items from the 50s. Thanks to the local donors Heather Davies, Ray Hessler, Kay Clarke, and Margaret Farch. You will also see a size 4 shoe tree that belonged to my Grannie Ada. As CHF has applied for casino eligibility, in the next few years we will have sufficient funds to buy a trailer that could be a ‘moveable museum’ housing the wonderful artifacts that have been donated and purchased during the four years that CHF has been in existence, making them more accessible to the public until there is an actual museum space.
Recently CHF was contacted by Alberta Historic Resources Foundation to document and photograph local archeological finds, such as stone hammers and arrowheads as examples. If you have collected any of these over the years and would be willing to have them documented, please contact us via our webpage at www.chestermerehistory.org.
