On Friday September 25th at the local Arts Days Celebration, the Chestermere Historical Foundation unveiled a painting done by Margaret Shelton, well known Alberta painter and print maker who lived here in the 60s. This watercolour was donated by Romana Kaspar-Kraft of The Collector’s Gallery of Art in Calgary. Romana and her family live here in Chestermere. Margaret loved painting this countryside, and many of her works are of the lake and surrounding rural areas and towns. Margaret would head out on her bicycle and was known to ride as far as the foothills to find just the right subject. She was a featured artist in ‘Made in Calgary The 70s’ a major Glenbow Museum retrospective in 2013. This painting of Chestermere Lake will hang for now in the Chestermere Public Library.
If you would like to know more about Margaret and see her other works there is a show at The Collector’s Gallery of Art October 24, 2015 – November 21, 2015. www.collectorsgallery.com . Her family’s story is also featured in ‘Chestermere A Home for All Seasons’ which is now on sale for $10 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of its publication. For your copy please email the CHF webpage at www.chestermerehistory.org or attend the Christmas Craft Sale at the Chestermere Rec Centre on Saturday November 7th .
