The road is not a playground

I write this letter in bitter frustration at the lack of common sense that has taken over our society. The latest and perhaps greatest example of this is the new parenting practice of teaching children to play on the ROAD. I think these parents think that as long as they have a plastic sign posted warning that kids are playing, they are in the right. This is NOT right. The little plastic signs might be good to post on your sidewalk to give drivers a heads up that a small one could potentially dart out into traffic. They are NOT intended to stick in the middle of a road so that kids can play on the road and cars cannot get by. I would like to remind people that roads were actually built and are intended for vehicle traffic. That’s why we have them. Sidewalks, yards, and parks are meant for people/children to play on. Roads are dangerous. They are not a place for kids to play. End of story.
