Chestermere to host mayors meeting

The City of Chestermere is hosting the Mid-Sized Cities Mayor’s Caucus Sept. 29 and 30.
“We’re very excited to learn from all the speakers scheduled to present to us and to show off our beautiful community,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews in an e-mailed statement.
The caucus is a meeting of Mayors and Chief Administrative Officers (CAO) from the provinces cities with populations over 15,000 people. Edmonton and Calgary are excluded from this group.
Roughly one million people are represented by these municipalities.
The caucus meets twice per year with the intention for the participants to share common practices and identify common areas of concern to the Province.
Mayor Matthews said it is a chance for municipalities to share and learn together.
“We get to participate in a network where learnings are shared freely amongst our peers,” she said.
“As one of the smaller cities Chestermere gets the benefit of wisdom from other municipalities who have already been in our position of growth,” said Matthews.
“specific questions or concerns can be answered by those who have experience directly related to them,” she said.
Each member of the caucus is expected to host the meeting in turn.
“We are fortunate to be hosting this one and are seeing some direct economic benefits to our businesses as this group books into our hotel and plans leisure activities in Chestermere outside of the caucus,” said Matthews.
She looks forward to being able to showcase the city to the visiting mayors, CAO’s, Provincial ministers and their staffs and federal representatives at the meeting.
