In any community, the partnership between businesses and community programming is vital. Many recreation organizations and not for profits depend on generous donors and sponsors to keep their programs running. That generous spirit has always been strong in Chestermere and this week a handsome donation to Chestermeres only recreation center showed that spirit is alive and well.

On July 27th at the Chestermere Scotiabank, located at 400, 175 Chestermere Station Way, Greg Moffatt and Leighton Milliken from Scotia Bank presented Jody Nouwen, General Manager at the Chestermere Recreation Centre with a $5000 cheque.

“Scotiabank generously donated $5000 to the CRCA as a part of our Fun Money Casino night fundraiser.  Not only did Scotiabank contribute financially but they also stepped up to volunteer their time at the event.  Several employees from the Chestermere branch including branch manager Leighton Milliken and small business advisor Greg Moffatt spent the night selling raffle tickets, counting cash and generally assisting where needed. There contribution along with all the other volunteers and staff helped to make the event a complete success!”, says Nouwen.

Nouwen adds that the funds raised by the event will be used in a variety of ways.  “We are creating some new recreation programs including a partnership with the Best Western to offer children’s swim lessons and adult water fitness classes and we have some new theater and Improv courses. Some of the proceeds will go towards purchasing necessary equipment to make these programs happen.  We also run shinny hockey and public skate throughout the year and funds we have raised will contribute to assisting us with being able to offer those free activities for our members. Finally, the CRCA hosts many special events throughout the year. Events such as the Community Christmas party, the Multicultural play day and Seniors week events all will benefit from funds raised”.

Greg Moffatt, Small Business Advisor with Scotiabank says, “The Scotiabank Chestermere branch is dedicated to serving the people, businesses and organization that serve the City of Chestermere. We are thankful to have the opportunity to partner with organizations like the Chestermere Regional Community Association, Chestermere Foodbank, Chestermere Historical Foundation and Chestermere Minor Hockey Association”.

Scotiabank’s Small Business Advisor Greg Moffatt brings community service experience from many years serving as a pastor into his banking role. As a Small Business Advisor Greg partners with local non-profit and the Scotiabank team to serve our vibrant and growing community. While Scotiabank is an international financial institution its branches seek to connect deeply with the communities they serve.

“The CRCA casino night was a fun event that allowed the team at Scotiabank to get into the community in a more informal and personal way to raise essential funds and awareness of the CRCA. We welcomes the opportunity to meet with and partner with numerous non-profit community organizations in Chesteremere”, adds Moffatt.

“Partnership such as the one we have with Scotiabank are vital to the CRCA.  As a not for profit organization we rely on community support as well as our membership to help support our programs as well as our facility.  We are proud to be the hub of the community and we strive to provide the best possible recreational opportunities for the residents of Chestermere and surrounding area”, says Nouwen.
