Power outage affects long weekend in Chestermere

Chestermere residents who stayed in the city for the Labour Day long weekend had their activities interrupted by a power outage.
“At this point what we know is that there was an equipment failure,” said Enmax Spokesperson Doris Kaufmann Woodcock.
She said crews are continuing to investigate the cause of the failure.
“Fortis still has a reliable supply that’s stable while we continue to do necessary repair work,” she said.
Fortis Alberta and Enmax are both responsible for delivery of power to the City of Chestermere.
Enmax supplies the electricity from a substation that also supplies parts of Calgary.
Fortis Alberta delivers the power to Chestermere.
“Both Enmax and Fortis are continuously monitoring and maintaining the system and improving upon it where required,” said Kaufman Woodcock.
Power lines, like all utilities can be affected by weather and wildlife activity and general wear and tear.
“From time to time you do have outages,” she said, “and then you need to address the as quickly as you can.”
