Bridgeport progresses to next stage of development process

Outline plan approved by council

Chestermere City Council approved the second and third readings for the Bridgeport Outline Plan and Land Use designation at the Sept. 5 meeting.
The intent of the development is to allow Chestermere to grow in a diverse and sustainable fashion.
In the council debate prior to the approval, council made sure that the development of Bridgeport would not place a tax burden on existing residents.
“Development pays for development,” said City of Chestermere Municipal Planner II Jillian Geen.
“These developers are responsible to build or pay for off-site levies for any of the infrastructure that they need,” she said.
With this approval means that the developer can now apply for subdivisions and continue to the next stage in developing the area on the west side of Chestermere.
It will still be quite some time before ground will be broken on the first phase of the development.
Bridgeport could take about 25 to fully complete the entire development.
“It’s still a ways away,” said Geen.
When completed, Bridgeport will offer the widest variety of residential in the city alongside what a significant amount of commercial development.
“There’s a live/work residential district which will allow for a range of businesses to operate in the same unit as their home.
“So, you live above where you work,” said Jeff Brunen, Municipal Planner
