Chestermere resident sent to hospital after fire

A Chestermere man was sent to hospital on Tuesday follow a blaze at a property near the old abandoned water slides.

Crews from the Rockyview fire services were called to a garage on Range Road 281A and Hilltop Cove at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. According to paramedics he was in stable condition with injuries unrelated to the fire.

The cause has not been determined.

It’s the second blaze near the site of the abandoned waterslides off Highway 16 in a little more than a week. On May 28 crews were called out to a major blaze at the slide site itself. The fire at the former park, which has been abandoned for nearly 25 years, has re-prompted calls for its clean up.

Scribol, a London-based online magazine, has dubbed it one of its Top 10 “creepiest abandoned waterparks on Earth.”
