NDP asking for public in put on 2017 Alberta Budget

Provincial government kicks off budget consultations

The provincial government is asking the public for their suggestions and priorities for the 2017 Alberta Budget.
“We saw some promising signs of economic stability leading into the new year, but there is still a lot of work to do as we prepare for the next budget.
“These are still challenging economic times and I would like to hear from Albertans about their priorities and ideas on how to best meet their needs without increasing costs or affecting front-line services,” said Minister of Finance Joe Ceci.
One of the challenges still facing the Alberta economy is the continuing low price of oil globally. Because of this, the projected deficit for 2016-2017 is projected at $10.8 billion.
Ceci will be meeting with community leaders and hosting a series of public meetings town halls across the province this month to hear what Albertan’s want included in the next provincial budget.
Ceci will not be making a stop in Chestermere but will be holding a meeting in Calgary on Jan. 20.
For people who are unable to get to one of the public meetings, Ceci along with Premier Rachel Notley will be hosting two telephone town halls.
These town halls will be split by region; with Northern Alberta scheduled for Jan. 30 and Southern Alberta on Jan. 31.
Details of how to participate will be released by the province closer to the town hall dates.
Submissions are also being accepted online until Feb. 3 at www.alberta.ca/budget-consultations.aspx.
