RCMP reminding Chestermerians not to drink and drive

Reminder comes after several charges between April 1 and May 7.

With the issuance of two roadside suspensions and six impaired driving charges in the last month, Chestermere RCMP are reminding people not to drink and drive.
“If you drink, please don’t drive,” said Chestermere RCMP Cpl. Courtney Currie in a press release.
In Alberta, anyone who blows over 0.05 per cent on a breathalyzer test is subject to a three-day roadside suspension and the impoundment of their car.
A criminal charge is laid if a driver blows over 0.08 per cent.
There is no universal rule of thumb that can be used to judge whether a person has had too much to drink.
Because of this RCMP recommend that people always plan ahead when going out.
“If you plan on drinking, arrange for a ride, call a taxi, spend a night at a friend’s house or call friends or family to pick you up,” said Currie.
The police ask that if a member of the public suspects an impaired driver that they call 911 with as much information about the vehicle as possible.
Details that will assist officers in locating a vehicle include the make, model and license plate.
