Two charged after altercation at John Peake Memorial Park

Two people have been charged after RCMP received a complaint of a male waving a handgun out of a car window April 28.
RCMP were called to John Peake Memorial park at about 4 p.m. after they received a report that a male was waving a hand gun after being involved in an altercation at the park.
Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the Tim Hortons parking lot shortly after receiving the call.
A search was conducted and officers found an air soft gun.
As a result of the search two Chestermere residents, an 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old female, were charged with firearm related offences.
They are scheduled to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court on June 6.
Chestermere RCMP Cpl. Courtney Currie said that although there aren’t any laws or City of Chestermere bylaws relating to air soft guns, the use of one that leads someone to believe it is a real firearm can lead to criminal code charges.
She reminds the public that if they are witness to a similar situation not to approach the suspect.
“Call 911 and try to gather as much information about the suspect and/or vehicle as possible, such as description, make, model, licence plate and direction of travel,” she said
