The Chestermere Rec Centre is fulfilling families dreams of getting more wear out of their Halloween costumes.

“We wondered if we had too many events, and somebody said when you’ve got the kids Halloween costumes it’s nice to use them for more than one event rather than just on Halloween night,” said Recreation Program Coordinator Vicki Klinger.

Klinger added, “Now they can go to a Halloween party, they can wear their costumes at the Pumpkin Patch, at Camp Chestermere, or at the Rec Centre.”

The Rec Centre has Halloween parties that every age group, and every member of the family will enjoy, she added.

The preschoolers and their parents are encouraged to attend the annual Munchkin Boofest, which is a not-so-scary Halloween party on Oct. 26 beginning at 2 pm., until 4 p.m.

“By having the one in the afternoon it’s a little less over whelming for the little kids,” said Klinger.

“In the afternoon we have the lights up, we still have the activity stations, and we let the kids pick up their goodie bag when they leave,” Klinger said.

She added, the munchkins can go through the beloved haunted house, however the lights are kept on and there isn’t anyone in the haunted house to spook them.

“Usually the basic things are scary enough for them,” Klinger said.

By having two Halloween parties, the Munchkin Boofest and the Halloween Howler, for different age groups on Oct. 26, it made managing the crowd easier, Klinger added.

Families are encouraged to dress up and go out to the annual Halloween Howler beginning at 7 p.m., on Oct. 26, where they can spend the evening dancing, walking through the haunted house, playing Halloween games, and winning treats.

If groups of friends from grade six to grade nine want to attend a Halloween party together without their parents, the Zombie Fright Fest is a great option on Oct. 27 beginning at 7 p.m.

“We don’t have the activity station, they’re not as into that,” Klinger said.

She added, “Kids dress up and have a dance.”

Although there won’t be an activity station at the Zombie Fright Fest there will be a lot of dance contests, a costume contest and prizes to keep everyone having fun.

For Klinger the best part of organizing the Halloween events that every age group will enjoy is seeing everyone having fun and being dressed up.

“Halloween is difficult, because it’s a lot of work to decorate and set up, however, families have options in the community of how they want to spend their Halloween,” Klinger said.

Tickets for all three Halloween parties go on sale Oct. 3 and can be purchased at the Chestermere Rec Centre office, or at www.chestermerecrca.com.
