Park project wins Communities ChooseWell Healthy Community Award

Cornerstone Community Park Award acceptance

Chestermere’s Cornerstone Community Park, which welcomes visitors coming in from the West on Chestermere Boulevard is the winner of a ChooseWell Healthy Community Award.

The development of the park came as part of the Synergy Youth and Community Development Society led initiative to develop the Centre for Community Leadership on the site.

As part of the development of the not for profit facility, Cornerstone Community Park was built surrounding the building in partnership between The City of Chestermere, Synergy, and several area landscaping companies.

The project turned a former utility lot into a picturesque entry to the city.

Synergy Board Co-Chair Deb Hitchcock describes the park as inspiring.

“Cornerstone Community Park is an asset to our community because it provides another location for residents to meet, play and enjoy nature,” she said.

“The park features paved pathways, bee pollinating gardens, a water fountain and an enjoyable, relaxing space for families using the Skate Park,” said Hitchcock.

In winning The ChooseWell Healthy Community Award, the dedication and work of everyone involved has been recognized.

Hitchcock along with Landscape Alberta’s Executive Director, Joel Beatson, accepted the award on Oct. 25 in Jasper, Alta.

The purpose of the ChooseWell Healthy Community Awards is to celebrate the achievements and efforts of Alberta communities and wellness champions that promote healthy eating and active living or for creating the conditions that make making healthy choices easy through parks and recreation.
