Council postpones discussion of future of CUI

Chestermere city council chose to remove the discussion of the Future Operational Considerations/Options for CUI from the agenda at the Aug. 13 council meeting to allow the city’s new CAO Bernie Morton to be brought fully up to speed on the issue.

“We pulled it at the last minute and that was in respect to…our new CAO,” said Mayor Chalmers.

Chalmers said that all members of council heard from residents that CUI was a priority.

“We heard them loud and clear during our…election process,” he said, “finding the best path forward for our utility distribution is very much at the centre of our strategic plan.”

“And we are continuing to move forward with that strategic plan and again with our new CAO he’s in the process in being fully briefed on CUI.”

Chalmers said that the city will be calling a meeting with the CUI Board to allow Morton to meet with and discuss what the best path forward is.

“I just wanted to assure the community that we’re on it and continuing to work with the board,” said Chalmers.
