Eighth annual Easter Egg hunt set to go March 31

The Easter Bunny will be making his annual stop in Chestermere March 31 for the annual Easter Egg Hunt Fundraiser at Lakeside Golf Club.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring families together,” said Event Organizer Marla Polachek.
Each year the event sells out as interest continues to grow in the community and because of this, Polachek said they have added another start time.
“We’ve gone from three to four to five this year, so we’ll have 500 spots available for children this year,” she said.
This outdoor event will run rain, snow or sun from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the first hunt starting at 9:15 a.m. followed by a new start every 30 minutes.
After collecting their eggs, kids will then get to, as Polachek calls it, “‘eggs’change them for treats.”
Along with the ultimate prize, a chocolate bunny, kids will get an assortment of treats from the event sponsors.
“One of our sponsors is giving away tooth brushes, which is kind of ironic given the chocolate,” said Polachek.
There will be a variety of non-food treats, which Polachek said may include sidewalk chalk and stickers.
In addition to the hunt, there will be a raffle, coin drop machine as well coffee and hot chocolate.
The hunt is done in partnership with the United Way and sees all of the money raised by the event invested back into the community.
They are hoping to double the amount raised this year compared to last year.
“Our goal this year would be to raise $4000,” said Polachek, “we’re setting our sites a little bit higher this year.”
Local charities are invited to apply for funding through this program starting on June 15.
Families need to preregister for the Easter Egg Hunt at www.chestermere.ca/egghunt. The cost is $7 per child.
“Definitely do not delay,” said Polachek.
“It’ll be close to a sell out if not a sell out,” she said.
