Owner of Vicious Dog arrested

Chestermere Peace Officer's lay five charges against owner of unlicensed dog

A Chestermere man is facing five charges under the city’s Animal Control bylaw after refusing to license a dog that had been deemed vicious.

The man was arrested on Dec. 2 by Chestermere Peace Officers

The charges and arrest stem from a complaint of a dog on the loose in the city.

In the course of the investigation, Peace Officers determined that the dog was unlicensed and had been deemed vicious through a separate previous incident in the City of Calgary.

“When a municipality deems a dog vicious that means they have to register and or license that dog in that municipality or any other municipality in the province as vicious,” said Chestermere Municipal Enforcement Peace Officer Shawn Press.

“So when that dog came to the city of Chestermere if would have had hold that license as well as insurances for that purpose,” he said, “and none of these criteria were being met.”

And order to remedy was issued along with tickets for those violations.

Press said that officers were unable to serve the tickets and the order to remedy was ignored.

“In speaking with the individual, he wanted nothing to do with our officers,” said Press.

A warrant was requested and issued by the courts based on the offences.

Peace Officers served the warrant and arrested the man on the outstanding offences Dec. 2 he has since been released to appear in court to face the charges at a future date.
