Strathmore RCMP shut down suspected chop shop

Stolen vehicles found on a search of a Rural property after a tip from the public

Strathmore RCMP have seized 15 vehicles from a suspected chop shop after a search of rural property East of Chestermere on January 8.
Acting on a tip from the public, police served a search warrant at a rural property located on Range Road 265 west of Strathmore.
Strathmore RCMP conducted the search in conjunction with the RCMP Auto Theft Unit.
Police searched several vehicles on the property. More than a dozen vehicles were identified by investigators as either having been stolen or to having had their vehicle identification numbers altered.
“This investigation is another example of public and police working together to reduce crime in our communities,” said Strathmore RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Kevin O’Dwyer.
Police arrested one male at the scene for possession of stolen property.
“Property crime, including stolen vehicles, continues to be a priority for us,” said O’Dwyer.
“By targeting individuals and groups responsible for these trends, we can reduce their impact on rural Albertans,” he said.
The male suspect from Calgary has been released from police custody on a promise to appear. RCMP said they are not releasing the man’s name as charges have not yet been sworn against him.
Further charges are expected in the coming days as police continue with the next phase of their investigation.
RCMP are examining the evidence seized in the search.
