Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Strathmore RCMP seize 250 grams of cocaine

A complaint of an erratic vehicle on Highway 1 has led to drug charges for against the driver after RCMP conducted a traffic stop June 9.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle being driven erratically eastbound on Highway 1. RCMP located and stopped the vehicle as it entered the Town of Strathmore.

The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Yonas Negussie from Brooks, Alta. was arrested without incident.

In searching the vehicle, 250 grams of cocaine was found and seized by police.

Police also conducted a sobriety test of the driver.

Negussie is facing numerous charges including impaired driving by drug, breach of conditions, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Negussie has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.
