Work continuing on 2019-23 capital budget

City council received an update on the city’s capital budget for the 2019-2023 budgeting cycle at the Oct. 1 council meeting.

Under the Municipal Government Act, the city is required to have a five-year capital plan.

The proposed Capital Budget for 2019-2023 has 170 projects with an estimated total value of $60.4 million.

In addition to the proposed capital projects, staff have been conducting asset conditioning which is a process used to analyze the city’s equipment to determine how much useful service life remains. This is based on the current usage of the equipment.

The process also considers whether it would be more cost effective and beneficial to continue to maintain or refurbish existing equipment rather than replace it.

Public feedback was obtained in conjunction with the city’s public engagement on the budget.

Information was gathered to determine what the public’s priorities are for future capital projects in Chestermere.
