Pick-up strikes school bus heading eastbound in Wheatland County

Both passengers of the pick-up were taken to hospital with serious injuries

On April 2 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Strathmore RCMP responded to a collision involving a school bus and a pick-up truck near Range Road 255 in Wheatland County.

The school bus had stopped to pick up a student when a pick-up truck traveling eastbound struck into the back of the bus, said Constable Mike Hibbs.

The female driver of the pick-up truck was STARS to a Calgary hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, Hibbs said.

A male passenger of the pick-up truck was transported to a Calgary hospital with severe injuries by EMS.

As a result of the school bus being pushed forward after the pick-up hit the rear end, a student was struck with a side mirror causing minor injuries.

The student was released after the minor injuries obtained were checked on the scene by EMS.

All of the students on the school bus were put onto another bus and transported to school, Hibbs said.

The collision is currently being investigated by Strathmore RCMP and an RCMP collision analyst.
