City of Chestermere News: Chestermere Peace Officers catch impaired driver on West Chestermere Drive

On the morning of Sunday August 23, 2020, at 11:30 a.m., Chestermere Peace Officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of West Chestermere Drive. While patrolling the area, an officer observed a vehicle traveling more than 20 km/h over the limit in the 200 block of West Chestermere Drive.

A traffic stop was initiated and upon further investigation by Chestermere Peace Officers, the RCMP were requested to attend the location. A 22-year-old male from the Calgary area was subsequently arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver was later released to appear in Strathmore Provincial court at a later date.

Chestermere’s Peace Officers continue to fulfil a very important role in preventing traffic related injuries, while working closely with Chestermere’s RCMP to enhance road safety in the city.

Chestermere’s policing agencies work diligently to deter and detect driving behaviours that may put residents and other users of the roadway at risk.

The early morning timing of this offence is alarming and serves as a reminder to our community that as more families are enjoying the summer season from home this year, to remain vigilant to keep our community safe.

We remind drivers not to drink and drive, and if you are consuming alcohol or cannabis, to ensure you have a safe ride home.
