Albertans encouraged to partake in 9 PM routine

The RCMP is encouraging Albertans to participate in the 9 PM routine to ensure their properties remain secure this summer.

Every day at 9 PM, the RCMP will post a reminder, and crime prevention prompts, on social media to remind Albertans to check their properties.

The reminders will range from ensuring doors and windows are locked, to securing lawn mowers and bikes and removing valuables from vehicles, an RCMP media release said.

By following the 9 PM routine, Albertans are encouraged to lock garage doors, remove the garage door opener, wallet, and keys from their vehicle, ensure vehicle windows are shut, turn motion sensor lights on, and shut any gates on their property.

Albertans who have motorcycles are also encouraged to park in a safe well-lit location and ensure lawn mowers and tools are put away in a locked shed.
