“Drive” is part of a project only featuring Calgary-based vocalists.

Calgary R&B artist has partnered with a local producer and pianist to release a new single.

Justine Tyrell is collaborating with Timothonius and Matthew Zoteman for a slow-tempo R&B track titled “Drive.”

“With its effortless blend of an addictive compilation of synths and rhythms, “Drive” is the perfect example of R&B at its best,” a Bad Parade media release said.

The song showcases an unperfect relationship with Tyrell telling her problematic partner that they are driving each other away.

“Timothonius and Zoeteman’s flawlessly modern production provide her with a beat so smooth and sensual you’re immediately captivated, and Tyrell’s vocal capabilities make the most of it,” the release said. “The soulful tune ebbs and flows until ceasing dramatically to make way for piano accompaniment.”

The track is a part of Timothonius’upcoming debut EP release later this spring, that will feature five songs performed by five different Calgary-based artists.

Timothonius is a Canadian jazz pianist, music producer, and composer who studied jazz performance at Mount Royal University, and composition and electronic production at Berklee College of Music.

Timothonius is now working to curate a new wave of modern music by merging the worlds of Jazz, Neo-Soul, and Hip-Hop with an electro-acoustic texture, the release said.

Tyrell has always had a passion for music, it was undeniable, as she grew up in an eclectic household listening to anything from R&B and Hip Hop to Blues and Country.

She wrote her first song at seven in her family’s basement, and since then she has been describing music as her first love, and a way to process the world.

After she began writing, Tyrell started learning as many instruments as possible and was always trying to get her friends to join the band she was in.

“Tyrell was always certain that bringing music to people was what she wanted to do,” the release said.

Tyrell remembers discovering her first Aaliyah CD, crying to the first Amy Winehouse song she ever heard, scribbling down song ideas in the back of her journals, and the feeling she got when the hair stood up on end at her first concert.

Through music, Tyrell felt like she was never alone and always had a place to belong.

“Now, she hopes to bring that very same feeling to her listeners, while giving them something of their own to get lost in,” the release said.

Tyrell’s music is now described as chronicling the bitter and sweet moments in love and relationships, which are come out like reading a diary.

“Tyrell creates a vibey and refreshing soundtrack, to suit listeners as they move through the moods of their own lives,” the release said.

“This song captures the moments of what is imminently the last drive taken with a flame, blaring with silences and the realization that the love has slipped away. The blurring of streetlights and the tension of quiet gazes, fill the spaces of all of the words that are going unsaid,” Tyrell said. “Intimately personal and inspired by the dark sonics of the production soundscape, “Drive” tells a story of how sometimes the loneliest places we go, are together.”
