Everyone knows that Chestermere residents love a good party and this summer proved that to be true. The Town of Chestermere Community Services provides a block party ‘how to kit’ during the regular BBQ season. This is a free program and is ran with the hopes of building those strong neighbourly relationships within the community.
So you want to host a block party? You simply contact Community Services and they’ll hook you up. When booking a block party, you are provided disposable plates, cups, napkins and utensils – Children’s outdoor games bag – Visit from one or more of the local RCMP, Peace Officers, Town Council and/or Fire Department. There is also information regarding doing up posters and invitations so that you can spread the word. A new addition to the block party initiative is Lake Ridge Community Church and M & M Meats sponsor some yummy food for your party including burgers, appetizers and desserts for up to 36 people.
During this year’s block party season, the Community Services threw out a challenge of a photography contest. They invited those hosting and participating in block parties to submit a photograph of their party with the prize being a gift bag of Community Services swag and the winning photo being displayed at the Chestermere Municipal Building. The winning photo was of a group that added an artistic flare to their picture by drawing their street in side walk chalk and then each attendee took a small block of wood, wrote their name on it and placed it on the chalk drawn street to indicate where they live. Very creative!
This year’s block party season saw twenty six parties which totalled hosting around 1000 people. If you want to host a block party in your community, you can contact the Town of Chestermere Community Services at (403) 207-7060.
