It goes without saying that with the price of oil plummeting and a new provincial government getting their feet wet, the economy took a major hit. Oil and gas companies were among the many that were forced to do mass layoffs in order to try and stay afloat.
With many businesses wondering what the future will hold, it is times like these that have business owners looking for those that might have the answers. No crystal ball will show the future of our economy, but there are those trained professionals that can at least shed some light on how to make it through times of economic turmoil.
For over 20 years, Todd Hirsch has worked as an economist at numerous organizations including the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canada West Foundation and the Bank of Canada and is currently is ATB Financials Chief Economist. Todd holds a BA Honours in Economics from the U of A and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary.
For almost a decade, Todd taught economics at the University of Calgary. He released his first book, The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline in 2012.
Todd provides economic commentary for many Canadian media outlets and is a regular columnist for the Globe and Mail. He currently serves on the University Of Calgary Board Of Governors and is the chair of the Calgary Arts Academy. Todd recently received the University of Alberta’s Alumni Honour Award.
It is with this impressive resume that the Chestermere Chamber of Commerce has invited Todd to speak at their chamber breakfast on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. This event will take place at the Chestermere Landing (upstairs) located at 109 East Chestermere Drive with registration starting at 7:30 am, buffet breakfast at 8:00 am and the presentation beginning at 8:30 am.
Early Bird Tickets (before December 13, 2015) are $35 for Chamber Members and $45 for non-members. After December 13th, those prices will increase to $40 for Chamber Members and $50 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.chestermerechamber.com/Events.html
